BASIC programming language turns 60 years old

Post by admin »

John Kemeny and Thomas Kurtz founded the BASIC programming language on May 1, 1964. The name BASIC is an acronym for Beginner's All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code.

It has been adapted to work on virtually every computer system in existence. Many people learned to program with it. Due to all of the adaptions, there's many variations known as dialects. They all have their own special syntax. Many are highly compatible or at least easily portable.

The BASIC programming language has made computer science more friendly, fun, and approachable. While there are many "modern" solutions such as Python or Javascript, BASIC will still live on in the hearts and minds of bleeding edge hobbyists who refuse to be told what language to code in.
